Donna Bamford

Hummingbird

Today, I saw a hummingbird
flit from impatiens to impatiens,
hovering there,
a delicate feminine thing
ruby-throated
ethereal, iridescent
I saw also fields
of wild fall aster, purple,
and ragweed, golden
with Queen Anne's lace
and teasel
and a little Eden
a pine grove fit
for a lonely poet
fall leaves reflected
in a lake with lily pads
It was a peaceful day
after yesterday's deluge
serenity,
clarity,
radiance

Biography

I am an ESL teacher and free lance journalist currently living in London, Ontario, though I am mostly from Toronto though I have also lived in London, England, Paris and Athens teaching English. Right now I am working on a children's book which is about time travel to 1896, for 11-12-13 year olds and hoping to get another children's book for 8-10 year olds published so I can do some more travelling myself. I am interested in all aspects of the arts, photography, and languages. My favourite poet at the moment is a Canadian named Anne Michaels.
