James Hyde

Saturday Night

He takes ...

35 minutes to shower
40 to choose
10 to dress
25 to admire
20 to change shirts twice
15 to gel his hair
4 lagers to nervously drink
30 minutes to reach the club
5 x 5 minutes to check himself in the mirrors
4 hours for the courage to dance

... and all night to know that
no matter how long he waits,
no-one will approach him.

Biography

James moved to Ireland recently, after 10 years in the UK. Originally from Australia, with stops in Canada and Belgium on the way, he's been writing since he could remember. He has made the shortlists for a number of competitions, but has never quite cracked the top prizes. He also writes radio plays, but the BBC have, so far, remained strangely silent about commissioning them. Perhaps fortuitously for RTE, he hasn't yet found out who commissions their plays.
