Elaine Cleveland

Haiku

a monarch butterfly
rests for a moment
on her headstone

in this pond
Basho's frog
would die

Hiroshima --
etched on the wall
a man's shadow

birch forest
in the sunlight
a thousand eyes

balancing act
on the church spire
full moon

dust devils
in the garden stirred by
hummingbird wings

fog slides and
the meadow --
gone

parking lot --
spider glides
from car to car

deer sauntering
across the yard --
just one more nibble

through the kitchen window
mist swallowing
the golden meadow

sudden hailstorm --
sheltered under the pines
watching roses die

moon
competes with the sun
in the daytime sky

Clouds

Roof the earth
And
Floor the heavens

Lightning

Sutures
The face
Of Heaven

Lightning

Darns
The ragged edges
Of the clouds

Sideshow

A contortionist
Is what I ought to be --
I put my foot in my mouth
So easily!

Biography

I am still happily retired. There is so much to learn about the various genres I wouldn't have time for a part time job. I have two internet teachers and we communicate by e-mail. One is on haiku and one is on fiction.
