Robert Connolly

A Light in Darker Places

Through a blanket of smoke in Dorans,
Through a tight crush of animated

Faces suspended above candles
Placed in glasses on crooked tables-

I saw your Chinese face and straight bang,
Your tight white tank top your black frilled bells;

The darkness that seemed to surround you,
That selfsame darkness you will notice

Around those lights that burn brighter and
More brilliantly than all the rest-

A purposeful darkness one could say,
Serving only to highlight the flame.

Biography

I was born on the 12th of October 1984 to two loving parents, Patrick and Siobhain. Since a young age the potency and power of words have attracted me and I feel (as I imagine most poets do), a sense of joyous empowerment when
writing. For me the ability to communicate an idea through the medium of poetry is a gift I am proud to possess.

I guess for me a good poem strives to engage the reader, and I have tried my best to integrate this belief into my own work. Finally if I were to offer
an objective self-assessment of my own poetry to date I would say that it examines the emotional and spiritual fallout upon the individual in this an
age of uncertainty, a subject matter I find to be both valid and piquant.
