Anne Fraser

Beneath the Branches

An afternoon,
a drink to share,
fruit - ripe and raw,
a taste lingering
at the back of the
mouth, suspended.

Above me,
the winds pause,
considering shadows
of entangled leaves
that dot the grass
like ragged footprints-
then they move on,
as do I,

my breath across
her belly,
slowing releasing
the peach
from her hand.
