JD

Alone in my room: lonely's the only company

I sit alone, again.
Eating the soft skin
on the sides of my cheeks,
chewing on these thoughts of mine.

The customary madness of evening
comes down over me
in many enormous yawns.

Ennui.
I do not exist.
I am fiction.
A made-up lie.

And so I lower the blinds
to salute the day's death.
There is nothing to do,
nothing to be done.

In this room that my body inhabits,
the silence is sometimes so heavy
that I have the sensation
of wading through it.
And I drink it from a tall glass,
with a few cubes of ice.
