S.P. Flannery

Spider

Inside
it sits in wait
for a fruit fly, But I
reside behind a tissue and
my fears.

Arena - Verona

She and I can fly
over these ancient walls
above this fluid city
and into the Dolomites,
but we will stay and argue
about the sun, the red star
that will disappear in a few
moments, darkness cast
across the cobblestone square
our pictures will develop dark
faces obscure against the rosy
fingers of dusk, retreat
we will from the attendants thrust,
iron gates quickly closing,
they will join their friends, family
in evening dinner and conversation
not our words flung when the debate
will steer to gelato, flavors
and quantities to decide, the
decision is whether to leave
or be left with emerging bats.
