Soul
Diva
A
brown skinned diva
lives inside my soul heart
singing
bawdy songs
and sad songs.
Decorated with
feathers and beads,
frills
do not relieve
her inner pain.
She sings in clubs
for people who
cannot
understand her
nor even try.
At night she cries
alone in the
dark
or finds a man
to fill her void.
A brown skinned diva
Is part of my soul heart.
In me,
of me,
and yet not me.
Hyacinth
Perfume
I
arose early to collect dewdrops for my Fancy
Aromatic perfume of the blue hyacinth
Gathered to scent passion's playground
Sweet nectar of honeysuckle and clover
Poured in a silver goblet to sate His thirst
I wondered at the flowering quince
Its color mindful
Of my Lover's
Mouth
Nipples
Loins
The
quince's thorns are my nails
Tracing patterns on His back
Its leaves and bark
His eyes and hair
I cut branches of the quince
Placing them in a crystal bowl
He gazed upon them
While sipping dew nectar
And breathing hyacinth perfume
Jazz
Lyric for Laurel Casey
I've
been around the block
A time or two my friends,
And I've known my share of
What you might call men,
But the men that I attract
Seem to have an affinity
For subjects relating to
The arts and humanities.
Is
that a problem?
You may well ask.
Certainly some folks
Have taken me to task.
They say I value a man
Who shows a proclivity
For fine examples
Of creativity.
I
want a man who likes Shakespeare,
The Gershwins, and Van Gogh,
Melissa Ethridge, k. d. lang,
Even Barry Manilow, (oh no!)
Judy Garland, and Bette Midler,
Da Vinci, Capote, and Rampal
The Bronte sisters, Andy Warhol
And so very many more.
I admit that I'm a dreamer
I'll never find such a man
Who wants a woman beside him
Instead of some macho Tarzan
But I hope that I am wrong
And that one day he'll appear
'Cause I'll stay with that man
For a thousand years.

Biography
I am a writer of poetry and short fiction who currently resides
in Oxford,Mississippi, home of the late William Faulkner and
popular novelist John Grisham. I attend the University of
Mississippi as a graduate student in the field of Southern
Studies. I entered the program as an undergraduate in 1996
at the age of 32. Prior to that I made my living as a singer/actor
and via various bizarre jobs ranging from DinoGuide at the
Memphis Zoo's Dinosaurs Live! exhibit to being an office worker
in a riverboat casino. I've sung Blues in virtually every
nightclub on Beale Street in Memphis (Home of the Blues) and
worked as an actor in regional theatre, (Wisconsin, Rhode
Island, and Memphis), and in a few movies filmed in my home
state of North Carolina.
